Trump creates committee to investigate allegations against Fed governor Lisa Cook

President Donald Trump has created a three-member committee to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook made false statements on mortgage documents.

The allegations concern properties in Atlanta and Michigan, and Cook’s lawyers deny that she committed mortgage fraud.

Trump tried to remove Cook last year, but the Supreme Court ruled in June that she could remain in office while her legal challenge continued because she had not received proper notice and a chance to respond.

The committee includes the president’s economic policy adviser, the chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the director of the Office of Government Ethics.

Cook can submit a written response and present evidence at a closed, transcribed White House hearing scheduled for Nov.

She can also send the committee a written statement after the hearing by Nov.

The committee will then recommend to Trump whether there is cause to remove her from the Federal Reserve Board.
