Zverev says Sinner’s injury absence is not a benefit to him

Jannik Sinner, the world’s top-ranked men’s tennis player, has been out since injuring his right knee at Wimbledon in July.

He has announced that he will not play again in 2026, after also missing several other major tournaments.

Alexander Zverev, currently ranked second, is expected to take the No.

1 spot.

Zverev has lost his last 10 matches against Sinner, but says Sinner’s absence is not a good thing for him.

He says he prefers competing against the best players and hopes Sinner can return to the biggest tournaments soon.

Zverev also said Sinner should take the time needed to treat the injury properly, since inflammation can return if not fully healed.

He believes Sinner’s recovery should be shorter than his own, which followed a serious ankle injury in 2022.
