ShyGlass blurs Mac screens when users turn their heads

ShyGlass is a $4 app for Mac computers that blurs the screen when the user turns their head away.

It is designed for people working in public places, where someone nearby might see their screen.

The app uses motion data from compatible AirPods to track head direction, rather than using a webcam.

Users set a center position, and the screen blurs when their head moves beyond a chosen angle; it clears when they turn back.

ShyGlass needs Screen Recording permission to capture the display and apply the blur.

Its developer says those images stay in the computer’s memory, are not saved or uploaded, and capture stops when the blur ends.

The app cannot detect whether anyone is actually looking at the screen.

It requires macOS 14 or later and AirPods 3 or later, any AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max.
