Maurício Mattar says joke was not aimed at Alexandre Frota’s politics

Actors Alexandre Frota and Maurício Mattar clashed online after Frota posted about seeking votes for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil.

Mattar commented that he would be “laughing until 2090,” which Frota took as a personal taunt.

Frota recalled that the two had shared a home and worked together, and said he had supported Mattar during a heart attack.

Frota said political divisions had hurt their friendship, while stressing that Mattar remained important to him.

Mattar later said his laughter was aimed at actor Sandro Rocha, who had shared a video reacting to Frota’s support for Lula.

Mattar denied mocking Frota’s political position and told him, “I love you.”

The exchange followed a political disagreement, but both actors also expressed affection for their longtime friendship.
