Termini Imerese blocks neighborhood concert featuring Mauro Nardi

Termini Imerese, a city in Sicily near Palermo, will not host a neighborhood festival concert featuring Neapolitan singer Mauro Nardi.

Mayor Maria Terranova denied the event permit and municipal support for the association organizing the festival, which was planned for Oct.

17.

Terranova said Nardi’s public comments about performing at private parties attended by Cosa Nostra figures and members of the Casamonica family made his participation unacceptable.

Nardi described those performances in a 2019 documentary and said the people who hired him treated him as a friend.

The mayor said the decision reflected the city’s opposition to the mafia and its responsibility for activities linked to the municipality.

The festival cannot go ahead as proposed, with Nardi on its program.

The story also notes a similar decision in Marsala, where a mayor refused a venue for a concert by singer Daniele De Martino.
