ByteDance’s Seed AI lab is setting up a dedicated safety and alignment department as it develops more capable AI systems.
Yan Lin will lead the new unit and report to Seed head Wu Yonghui.
Staff from the existing Responsible AI team and some Chat team employees will move into it.
The department will set rules for model behavior, test safety, train models to follow human intentions and build protective systems.
