CXMT reports progress on denser memory chip design
China’s memory chip maker ChangXin Memory Technologies, or CXMT, says it has made progress on a new memory-cell design.
The company announced the development at an industrial event in Shanghai.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are also pursuing the same type of structure.
CXMT’s design uses a 4F square layout, where F refers to the minimum line width of a semiconductor.
Mainstream commercial DRAM currently uses a 6F square layout, which takes more area for each memory cell.
Fitting more cells onto a chip could increase its storage density, and CXMT says the design could also improve efficiency.
CXMT plans to introduce a server-memory product based on the design by the end of 2026.
