New York City to Offer Free Art Supplies to Grant Recipients

New York City artists who receive city-funded grants will be able to get free art supplies from Materials for the Arts, or MFTA.

The program is for artists selected for city grants and will begin on October 19.

The city recently doubled the maximum grant for individual artists and small nonprofits to $10,000, up from $5,000.

MFTA will open its 35,000-square-foot warehouse to these grantees on the second Monday of each month, except federal holidays.

Visitors will be able to choose from donated materials, including leather, art books and dinosaur masks.

The program gives grant recipients another way to access materials for their work.

MFTA has not described any further changes to the program.

What people are saying

By broadening our operations to offer shopping days directly targeting these art grantees, we can ensure that more artists, more changemakers, and more New Yorkers have access to our city program
