Russian diesel exports unlikely to ease market problems, analysts say

Analysts say lifting US sanctions on Russian diesel exports is unlikely to solve problems in the fuel market.

They say those problems are linked to the continuing war in the Middle East.

The change could have a modest effect by cooling prices.

Russia may also struggle to export the fuel because Ukrainian attacks have repeatedly hit Russian infrastructure.

The announced shipments are 300,000 tonnes of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tonnes in November and 1 million tonnes afterward.

Even if those amounts are delivered, analysts describe the increase as small.

The United States alone uses 3.7 million barrels of diesel a day, while producing 5.3 million barrels a day.
