Developers use AI heavily but remain cautious about trusting its answers
Many developers use AI tools, and about 80 percent of daily users surveyed spent at least an hour a day with them.
But only about 7 percent said they trusted AI output for important work decisions.
Nearly half trusted it when they could easily check the answer.
This matters because knowing where an answer came from can help developers decide whether it is accurate.
Stack Overflow's latest survey received 30,903 responses from developers and technologists in 169 countries.
Among 10,926 daily AI users who answered a time-use question, about 80 percent said they used AI tools for at least an hour a day.
Nearly a third of daily AI users said they spent four or more hours of their working day using AI.
Only about 7 percent of developers said they trusted AI output for important work decisions, while 48 percent trusted it when they could easily verify the output.
Seventy-nine percent said source attribution was important or very important when deciding whether to trust an AI-generated technical answer.
Coding assistants or agents were used by 66 percent of respondents, while 17 percent said they did not use AI tools.
