Silvia Salis says assisted fertility led to her son’s birth

Silvia Salis says assisted fertility led to her son’s birth after she and her husband, Fausto Brizzi, tried for a year to have a child.

Salis, the mayor of Genoa, shares the experience in her book, *È già domani*, released on October 13.

Their son Eugenio was born in 2023 after a longer journey than she had expected.

She says fertility treatment brought emotional strain, including weeks of waiting for results and calls from doctors.

The couple chose Salis’s surname for their son, rather than his father’s, as a small sign in support of social change.

Eugenio was named after Salis’s father, who met his grandson and spent about a year and a half with him before dying in early 2025.

Salis wants to speak openly about fertility treatment and the personal choices and uncertainty involved.
