Golden Globes sues Golden Globe Foundation over trademark use

The Golden Globes has sued the Golden Globe Foundation in federal court over the foundation’s use of the Golden Globe name.

The Golden Globes alleges the foundation uses the name for events, auctions, grants, publications and merchandise, creating confusion with the awards’ business.

It says the foundation continued using the name after a 2025 cease-and-desist letter and that licensing talks ended in July.

The Golden Globes wants a court order barring the use and is seeking unspecified damages.

The dispute follows a 2023 deal in which Dick Clark Productions bought the Golden Globes, and the foundation says it was created as part of that same deal.

The foundation disputes the framing of the lawsuit, with its spokesman saying the company now suing it was involved in the deal that created it.

The lawsuit asks for a jury, but the sources do not say when the court will hear the case or decide it.
