Chewable gummy offers another oral-care option for people with dementia

Chewable gummy offers another oral-care option for people with dementia

Dentablue is a peppermint-flavoured gummy developed for people with dementia who find brushing their teeth difficult.

Its creator, Molly Baldini, is a former NHS dementia service manager in Hertfordshire.

Dementia can make it hard to follow the steps involved in brushing, recognise a toothbrush or coordinate movements.

As a result, oral care can be distressing for some people and difficult for carers to fit in alongside other needs.

The gummy can be chewed and swallowed in seconds, is sugar-free and contains vitamins C and D to help maintain healthy teeth and gums.

It is intended as another option for oral care, and its developers say it may reduce distress and ease pressure on carers.

Dentablue is due to launch at the end of October and will cost £16.99 a month for 28 gummies.
