Nvidia, AMD, Google and Meta develop open data center design standard

Nvidia, AMD, Google and Meta are working on an open blueprint for designing data centers.

Called Open Data Center Specification v0.7, it covers building layout, cooling and power systems.

Data centers need large amounts of electricity and cooling to keep their computer chips running safely.

Different customer designs can make these complex facilities slower to build.

Shared templates could help builders bring new centers online faster.

Nvidia is also working with Google, Meta and Microsoft on a standard to help data centers recover quickly after power disruptions.

The specifications are intended for system makers, data center operators and other providers, but no timeline for their use is given.
