Indonesia plans Rp 824 trillion education budget for 2027

Indonesia’s Finance Minister, Suahasil Nazara, says the government is planning an education budget of Rp 824 trillion for 2027.

The budget is still being designed, including how funds will be divided among students, teachers and school and campus facilities.

It will be delivered through central government spending, transfers to regional governments, and education funds and financing.

Existing programs funded through the central government include student assistance, school upgrades and Sekolah Unggul Garuda, while Rp 19.3 trillion is allocated to Sekolah Rakyat.

The planning comes as President Prabowo Subianto has pledged free education at state schools and universities.

Suahasil says the government wants the spending to improve education quality, including raising Indonesia’s PISA scores and improving graduates’ skills.

The government has not yet detailed how the 2027 budget will be allocated or how free education will be implemented.
