Interscope sues Summer Walker for more than $50 million over alleged undelivered albums
Interscope Records is suing R&B singer Summer Walker in Los Angeles for more than $50 million.
Walker signed a recording deal with Interscope and Atlanta-based LVRN in 2017.
Her lawyers told Interscope she would stop working under the agreement on August 27, relying on California’s seven-year rule, which limits how long someone can be held to a personal-services contract.
Interscope says Walker delivered three of the five albums required by her deal and still owes two albums and an EP.
The law allows labels to seek damages when an artist leaves before delivering all agreed albums, and Interscope filed near the deadline for bringing such a claim.
Walker’s lawyer says she will defend against the claims and plans to countersue, while remaining open to a constructive resolution.
Interscope says it hopes ongoing discussions will lead to an amicable settlement.
