Keiichi Kimura targets his best performance at Aichi-Nagoya Para Games

Japanese swimmer Keiichi Kimura is preparing to compete at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games, which open Sunday.

The 36-year-old has competed at five Paralympic Games and won 10 medals.

He is blind and races in the S11 category, for athletes with extremely low vision or no light perception.

At the 2024 Paris Paralympics, he retained his title in the men's 100-meter butterfly and also won the 50-meter freestyle, both in Japanese-record times.

After returning to swimming in February last year, he has worked to improve his technique, relying on his times and how tired he feels rather than video.

This will be his first international multisport event in Japan since the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021.

He hopes the Games will renew public interest in athletes with disabilities and says he will aim for his best performance.
