MachinaRocks joins 11.8 billion won AI forging project

MachinaRocks will help develop AI for hot-forging production in a South Korean government-backed research project.

Hot forging heats metal above 1,000°C and presses it into shape, so making precise dies—the metal forms used in production—is important.

Until now, workers have often had to extract design details from part drawings by hand, and results could vary with their experience.

The AI is intended to read drawings, extract design parameters and recommend die adjustments using MachinaRocks’ Runway and DrawX tools.

The project brings together six industry and research partners, including MachinaRocks, ING Global, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Gyeongsang National University and the University of British Columbia.

The project has a total budget of 11.8 billion won, with 2.4 billion won allocated to MachinaRocks.

It runs from June 2026 through December 2029, when the partners aim to demonstrate the technology and develop autonomous production methods for wider use in manufacturing.
