South Korean man gets suspended sentence for repeatedly contacting woman

A court in Chuncheon, South Korea, sentenced a 29-year-old man for stalking a woman he met while playing an online game.

From March to August last year, he contacted her more than 400 times after she blocked him on KakaoTalk.

He used the app’s gift feature to send her gifts and press for a conversation.

The man had repeatedly asked her to have a romantic relationship with him, although he already had a girlfriend.

The woman had told him she did not want private contact, and the court said his actions caused her significant anxiety and mental distress.

He was sentenced to six months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years.

The court said it took into limited account that he admitted the offences and deposited money for the woman.
