More than 31,500 children in Mexico received care for violence in 2025
In Mexico, 31,578 children and teenagers aged one to 17 received hospital care after experiencing violence in 2025.
That averages 86 a day, and three-quarters of those treated were girls or young women.
Most victims were aged 12 to 17.
Nearly 63% of the cases involved violence in the family, while sexual violence accounted for 35.2% of the cases.
The number treated was 361.9% higher than in 2010, though it fell slightly from 2024.
The increase may partly reflect better reporting and record-keeping, as well as more children reporting violence that once went undocumented.
The figures point to violence in homes and the disproportionate harm faced by girls, while experts cited in the story call for positive parenting and education that challenges traditional gender roles.
A total of 31,578 children aged one to 17 received hospital care in Mexico in 2025 after experiencing violence, according to an analysis by Redim.
That was an average of 86 children a day and the fourth-highest annual total in the 15-year series.
Girls and adolescent women accounted for 75.1% of those treated, while 82% of all patients were aged 12 to 17.
Family violence accounted for 62.9% of the cases, and sexual violence for 35.2%.
Juan Martín Pérez said rising records may reflect better reporting and documentation, as well as changes in how violence is viewed, rather than only an increase in victims.
