Campaign Urges UN to Adopt Map Showing Africa’s True Size
Some maps make countries look different in size than they really are.
A campaign called #CorrectTheMap wants a map that shows Africa’s true size more clearly.
Its petition on Change.org has collected more than 11,000 signatures.
The campaign says several large countries and much of Europe could fit inside Africa.
The African Union supported the campaign in August 2025.
It later chose Togo to lead the effort.
The goal is to persuade the United Nations to adopt the proposed map.

The African Union later appointed Togo to lead efforts to secure adoption at the United Nations.
