Nepal Unsure If 120-Year-Old Treaty Documents With India Exist

Two neighboring countries, Nepal and India, are having a disagreement about where their shared border should be.

To help solve the argument, they need an old treaty, a written agreement made about 120 years ago.

This paper is very important because it may say exactly where the border was supposed to be.

But Nepal's government says it is not sure if it still has the real, official copy of this treaty.

Some documents that seem related to treaties are kept in a place called the National Archives.

However, nobody can confirm that those are the actual official agreements.

A person named Khanal said this in Nepal's parliament.

So right now, the big question is: where is the true official treaty document?

Without it, the border disagreement is harder to solve.
