Calcutta HC orders probe into unaffiliated schools in Kolkata, Howrah

A big court called the Calcutta High Court asked the government's school officer to check something important.

The officer must find out how many private schools in two Indian cities, Kolkata and Howrah, are running without official approval or recognition.

Private schools usually need special permission, called affiliation, to operate properly.

The court gave this order after a school called Tawheed International School and Welfare Trust complained.

The school said its building in Howrah was closed and locked on June 3 by people who said they worked for the district magistrate's office.

The school said nobody told them why the school was being closed, and the students had to switch to online classes.

But the school inspector reported that the school was running in unsafe conditions, and safety was the main reason for closing it.

The court also asked for a report to explain how some official papers were shared with a private person.

The reports are due by September 10, and the court will meet again on September 14 to decide what to do next.
