NCTE Plans Review of Teacher Eligibility Test Rules
The National Council for Teacher Education plans to review the teacher eligibility test, or TET.
It will study the test topics, passing scores and examination format.
A teachers’ federation asked for changes to make the test more scientific and subject-based.
The federation also wants the passing marks to be reduced.
Serving teachers are worried because they must pass the test by August 31, 2028.
This deadline follows a Supreme Court judgment.
NCTE officials said they hoped the matter would be resolved soon.
The federation separately asked election officials about teacher voting rights and voter enrolment rules.
The National Council for Teacher Education will form a sub-committee to review the TET syllabus, qualifying marks and examination pattern.
The School Teachers’ Federation of India asked for a scientifically designed syllabus, subject-wise examinations and lower qualifying marks.
Serving teachers are concerned about the requirement to pass TET by August 31, 2028, following a Supreme Court judgment.
NCTE officials expressed hope that the concerns would be resolved soon.
The federation also asked the Election Commission to regulate voter enrolment for Teachers’ and Graduates’ MLC elections and grant voting rights to primary and upper-primary teachers.
