Two Nepali Women Die by Suicide After Families Oppose Relationship

Two young women in Bengaluru died by suicide after their families did not accept their relationship.

The women, Sirjana and Rita, were relatives who had grown up together and later fell in love.

Their parents and relatives did not approve and brought them to Bengaluru about a month ago.

Their families kept them in two different hostels so they would be apart.

Even though they were separated, the women still met three or four times a week.

They were very sad about being separated and about their families' disapproval.

One day, they hanged themselves from a tree outside a hotel.

Police found them and started an investigation.

They spoke to the families to understand what led to this tragedy.
