Maharashtra Schools Teach Children Disaster Preparedness Through Alphabet Chart

Maharashtra Schools Teach Children Disaster Preparedness Through Alphabet Chart
A for Alert, B for Bunker: How Maharashtra’s school kids are learning disaster ABCs · indianexpress.com

Some government schools in Maharashtra are using a special alphabet chart to teach children about disasters.

Instead of only learning familiar words like Apple and Ball, children see words such as Alert, Bunker and Cyclone.

The chart also explains ideas like leaving an unsafe place and helping with search and rescue.

Palghar District Disaster Management Officer Vivekanand Kadam created it.

He first made the alphabet for his toddler, Vedansh, in 2024.

He later turned it into a learning tool for schools.

The chart uses simple words, repetition and pictures to make the ideas easier to learn.

It was formally launched on July 26, 2025.
