Karnataka Bandh Against Cauvery Water Release Won't Disrupt Normal Life

People in a part of India called Karnataka planned a big protest called a bandh.

A bandh is when shops, schools and other places shut down to show that people are upset about something.

They were upset because the government told them to send river water to their neighboring state, Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka said it does not have enough water because it did not rain enough this year.

The order asked Karnataka to send a lot of water — 12,000 cusecs — every day for 15 days.

The protest was planned for Thursday, from 6 am in the morning to 6 pm in the evening.

The police chief of Bengaluru, a big city in Karnataka, told people to go about their normal day.

He said schools, offices, shops and buses would still run as usual.

Police said they would be out everywhere to keep people safe.

They also warned that anyone causing violence or damaging property would be punished.
