Odisha Orders Salary Deductions for Unpaid Court-Ordered Maintenance

Odisha Orders Salary Deductions for Unpaid Court-Ordered Maintenance
State to cut salaries of staff defaulting on alimony · thehansindia.com

The Odisha government wants wives and children to receive money ordered by courts.

Some government employees were not paying this money even after judges directed them to do so.

The government says two or three such complaints were raised during many grievance hearings.

Now, the required amount can be taken directly from an employee’s monthly salary.

A departmental salary officer will handle the deduction after receiving the court order.

The money will then be sent electronically to the eligible wife’s or children’s bank account.

The cases will also be recorded in a computer system called the Human Resources Management System, or HRMS.

Officials say this should help payments arrive on time and reduce delays.
