Police said her estranged husband, Venkatesh, attacked her.

They said he threw floor-cleaning acid and used a machete.

The attack happened around 9:15 on Thursday morning.

Madhumita had stepped outside to get breakfast.

She tried to run into the clinic’s parking area.

People nearby tried to help, but police said the man waved the machete at them.

A traffic police officer knocked the weapon away with a stick and helped stop him.

Madhumita was taken to a hospital, and Venkatesh was arrested.

Police are still trying to learn why the attack happened.
