Congress may give civic poll tickets to Telangana party office-bearers

The Congress party is thinking about letting its own leaders run in upcoming city elections in Telangana.

Usually, the party picks other people to run for these seats, but this time it is a change from the normal way.

Party leaders who already have official jobs inside the party can now say if they want to run.

A top party official named Sachin Sawant is talking to these leaders about it.

He asked the vice-presidents of the state party to send in names of interested people.

The party will only give tickets to leaders who can win elections and are strong at the local level.

Sawant met with 26 vice-presidents one by one over the last two days.

Starting August 12, he will meet with general secretaries at Gandhi Bhavan.

A state minister said the municipal elections will happen at the right time and leaders will follow the high command's directions.
