Supreme Court Orders Medical Exam for Detained Climate Activist

The Supreme Court of India is looking into the case of Sonam Wangchuk, a climate activist from Ladakh, who has been detained under a special law called the National Security Act.

The court heard arguments about why he was detained and his health.

They decided that he should be examined by a doctor from a government hospital.

The doctor's report is to be submitted to the court by February 2.

The court also ordered that Wangchuk be taken to AIIMS Jodhpur for a medical examination after he complained of stomach pain.

He spent about an hour and a half at the hospital before being taken back to jail.

The court wants to make sure he gets the right medical treatment.

Wangchuk's lawyer said he is suffering from stomach pain due to the water quality in jail.

The jail authorities have examined him 21 times in the past four months, but his condition is worsening.
