CM Adhikari urges political unity to build 'Viksit Bengal'
India celebrates Independence Day every year to remember when the country became free.
This year was the 80th celebration, and the state of West Bengal held a big event in Kolkata.
The leader of the state, Suvendu Adhikari, gave a speech at Red Road.
He asked all political groups to stop arguing and work together.
He wants Bengal to become 'Viksit Bengal,' which means a developed Bengal.
He said that if Bengal becomes developed, the whole country can become 'Viksit Bharat,' a developed India, by 2047.
He remembered brave freedom fighters from Bengal who helped India become free long ago.
He also promised to keep his oath to serve the people.
At the same time, in another city called Siliguri, a minister named Nisith Pramanik raised the national flag.
It was the first time a minister did this, because in the past, government workers usually did it.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari called on political parties to put aside partisan divisions and unite for the state's development.
He addressed the 80th Independence Day celebrations of the state government at Red Road in central Kolkata.
Adhikari linked the 'Viksit Bengal' goal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Viksit Bharat' target for 2047.
He honoured Bengal's freedom fighters and pledged to uphold the oath he took on May 9, 2026, in the presence of PM Narendra Modi.
At Uttarkanya in Siliguri, minister Nisith Pramanik hoisted the national flag for the first time, ending a 12-year bureaucratic tradition.
