Sadineni Yamini Sharma visited a dam connected to the Velugonda irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh.

She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the project with Rs 908 crore.

The project is designed to send water to farms and homes.

Sharma said it could help irrigate nearly 5 lakh acres and provide drinking water to about 30 lakh people.

The project is especially important for areas facing water shortages and fluoride in groundwater.

A water purification plant is also being built with more than Rs 12 crore from the Union government.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the project’s first phase on August 31.

That phase is planned to irrigate 1,19,000 acres and provide drinking water to nearly four lakh people.
