BJP Launches Sant Ravidas Commemoration Ahead of 650th Birth
Guru Ravidas was a saint who lived a long time ago and taught people to treat everyone equally.
In 2024, the BJP started a big celebration to remember him.
The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, came to the ceremony.
Guru Ravidas’s poems are in the Sikh holy book.
His ideas help many Dalit people feel proud and equal.
BJP began a nationwide campaign to honor Guru Ravidas on July 29, 2024, at his birthplace near Varanasi.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the launch alongside Sant Niranjan Das and other dignitaries.
Guru Ravidas, a 15th‑16th‑century Bhakti saint from the Chamar community, preached equality and dignity of labor.
His teachings are included in the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib and inspire the Ravidassia Dalit community.
The AAP government also started a year‑long commemoration in February, reflecting the saint’s national significance.
