Justice Mukta Gupta Leads Reconstituted IIT Delhi Death Inquiry

IIT Delhi has created a new group to investigate the death of physics student Rishikesh Kumar.

The group will be led by retired judge Justice Mukta Gupta.

The earlier proposed leader, former Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar, stepped aside because of other commitments.

Students had asked for a retired High Court judge to lead the investigation.

The new group includes a psychiatry professor, four students, and the IIT Delhi Registrar.

It will look at what happened to Rishikesh and how the institute’s offices handled student welfare.

It will also talk to students and teachers and suggest ways to improve support systems.

The group is expected to finish its report within two weeks.

IIT Delhi has also proposed an outside person to review unresolved student complaints and announced financial help for Rishikesh’s family.
