West Bengal’s leaders want more businesses and factories to open in the state.

Suvendu Adhikari said a Ganesh Puja should mark the start of better economic growth.

He hoped new investments would create more jobs.

Samik Bhattacharya said large factories could help smaller businesses grow.

These smaller businesses are called micro, small and medium enterprises, or MSMEs.

He said technology industries such as data centres and semiconductor factories may not provide enough jobs for everyone.

He also wanted old industries such as handloom, muslin and khadi to become stronger again.

Bhattacharya said many local workers now leave West Bengal to find work elsewhere.

He pointed to the state’s coastline, rivers, borders, electricity and skilled workers as advantages.
