Afghan Cyclist Wins Asian Games Silver in Women’s Road Race

Fariba Hashimi is a cyclist from Afghanistan who won a silver medal at the Asian Games.

The race took place near Nagoya in Japan.

When she was younger, she sometimes dressed as a boy so she could practice cycling safely.

She and her sister Yulduz were attacked with stones when they began cycling.

Hashimi left Afghanistan after the Taliban returned to power and moved to Italy.

She said many Afghan women have had their freedoms limited.

She hopes her medal encourages girls to follow their dreams without fear.

She also thanked the Japanese team for helping repair her bike.
