India Approves Rs 36,441-Crore Khelo India Sports Revamp
India’s government decided to give a big boost to sports.
They will spend a total of 36,441 crore rupees over five years on a program called Khelo India.
This money will help find and train athletes from schools and villages.
They also added new schools that teach sports and a new group for young athletes.

The Indian Union Cabinet approved a revamped Khelo India Scheme and enhanced Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSFs) with a combined outlay of Rs 36,441 crore for 2026‑31.
The scheme will allocate Rs 29,054 crore over five years to build a grassroots athlete pool and support India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2036 Olympics.
ANSF assistance will receive Rs 7,387 crore over five years, up from Rs 425 crore for 2026‑27, to fund coaching, equipment, international exposure, and foreign experts.
New initiatives include Khelo India Feeder Schools and Khelo India Utkrishta Vidyalayas to integrate sports into mainstream education, and the Emerging Khelo India Athletes (E‑KIA) category to expand athlete development.
The programme also introduces a unified digital sports platform, a National Coach Accreditation Board, and emphasizes women, para‑athletes, indigenous sports, and sports as a tool for peace and inclusion.
