Ladakh High Court bench regulation takes effect, LG calls historic
Regulation enabling HC bench in Ladakh comes into effect; LG terms it ‘historic step’ · theprint.in

A new rule allowing a High Court bench to sit in Ladakh has started operating.

The rule was issued by the President of India on August 27, 2026.

It took effect on September 5, 2026.

The bench will belong to the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

People in Ladakh currently may need to travel outside the region for High Court cases.

That travel can take a lot of time and money.

Ladakh’s difficult terrain and harsh weather can make these trips harder.

Lt Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena called the change a historic step.

Officials will now work out the practical details needed to establish and operate the bench.
