Rani Padmini Murder: The Bathroom Hid Two Bodies. The Killer Had Been Inside All Along · NDTV

A long time ago, in 1986, a young actress named Rani Padmini and her mother Indirakumari lived in a rented house in Madras, India.

One terrible day, both of them were hurt very badly and died inside their own home.

Nobody found them for four days because everything outside looked normal, with newspapers piled up unopened at the door.

When police arrived, they discovered the two bodies lying one on top of the other in the bathroom.

The family's driver, cook and watchman had all disappeared, along with the actress's imported car.

Police believed the three men came to steal cash and jewellery and hurt the women so they could not tell anyone.

A court first sentenced all three men to the harshest punishment allowed, but a higher court later changed the decision.

In the end, two men were sent to prison for life, while the third disappeared and was never found.

Before the bodies were cremated, an actor named Mohan offered to help, but finally the mother's brother came to claim them.

Some people still wonder if there was another secret reason for the killings, but the official case focused on robbery and revenge.
