Kei Ishikawa Adapts Ishiguro’s ‘A Pale View’
A movie called ‘A Pale View of Hills’ is being made based on a book by Kazuo Ishiguro.
The director, Kei Ishikawa, talked about working with Ishiguro and how they made the story into a film.
The movie is about a young woman named Niki who wants to write about her mother’s experiences in Nagasaki after World War II.
Ishikawa also got advice from another famous director, Hirokazu Kore-eda.
The movie will be shown in theaters in Taiwan this December and in the UK next March.
Ishikawa is also working on another movie set in Poland.
Japanese film ‘A Pale View of Hills’ will premiere in the UK on March 13, 2025, and in Taiwan on December 5, 2024.
Director Kei Ishikawa collaborated with novelist Kazuo Ishiguro, who acted as a script doctor for the adaptation.
The film is a mystery drama set in 1980s England, following Niki, a Japanese-British writer, as she explores her mother’s past in post-war Nagasaki.
Ishikawa received advice from director Hirokazu Kore-eda and made significant changes, including telling the story through Niki’s perspective.
Ishikawa is also working on his next film, ‘The Excursion,’ set in Poland, where he studied filmmaking.
