Bhopal Probe Finds Alleged School Property Tax Manipulation

Officials are investigating whether someone changed a school’s property details in Bhopal’s tax system.

The school’s recorded area was made much smaller.

This reduced the amount of tax and other charges it was asked to pay.

The bill fell from about ₹7.71 lakh to about ₹1.09 lakh.

Officials say this may have cost the municipal corporation ₹6.62 lakh.

A government user account was reportedly used to make the changes.

The property details were later increased again in the computer system.

Police and municipal investigators are trying to find who made the changes.

They are checking computer records, internet addresses and staff statements.
