Pope Leo XIV Expresses Love for America, Emphasizes Universal Mission

Pope Leo XIV, the first pope from the United States, said he loves America but sees himself mainly as a global pastor.

He praised American ideas like freedom and opportunity, and talked about his family’s immigrant roots.

He also said the Trump administration treated immigrants badly.

On Independence Day, he went to Lampedusa, a place where many migrants try to reach Europe, and asked people to be kind to them.

He hasn’t planned a trip to the U.S. yet, but hopes to visit soon.
