Bodhana Sivanandan, Shreyas Royal Make Chess History at British Championships

Two young chess players from Britain made history at the weekend.

Bodhana Sivanandan is only 11 years old, and she just became the youngest girl ever to win the British women's chess title.

She learned to play chess during the Covid-19 lockdown when she was given an old chessboard.

Bodhana won her title in a fast chess tie-break against a 14-year-old player from Ireland.

Shreyas Royal is 17 years old, and he won the overall British chess championship for the first time.

He finished half a point ahead of the other top players after nine rounds.

Shreyas was born in India and moved to Britain when he was three.

He became England's youngest grandmaster when he was 15.

The tournament was the biggest British Chess Championship in 122 years, with more than 1,750 players.

Now Bodhana holds titles in three different chess formats, which is a huge achievement.
