Telangana announces Rs 200 crore auto-rickshaw electric conversion scheme

The government in Telangana, a state in India, wants to help auto-rickshaw drivers switch from vehicles that use petrol and diesel to ones that run on electricity.

Electric vehicles make less smoke, which is better for the air we breathe.

The government will give drivers money, called a subsidy, to help them make the change.

Drivers can upgrade their old auto-rickshaw with a special electric kit instead of buying a new one.

If they do buy a brand new electric auto-rickshaw, they can get even more money from the government.

The plan will help about 18,766 auto-rickshaws, mainly in an area known as the CURE area.

The government is spending 200 crore rupees on this plan, which is a very large amount of money.

It also set aside money from budgets meant for different communities to help pay for it.

The goal is to have cleaner air and lower fuel costs for drivers.

This is only the start of a bigger plan to make many more auto-rickshaws electric in Hyderabad and across the state.
