Tamil Nadu Raises Aid for Missing Fishermen, Seized Boats
Tamil Nadu announced more financial help for families whose fishermen go missing.
The daily payment will rise from Rs.
350 to Rs.
600.
Families can receive it for two years or until insurance relief becomes available.
The government will also help owners whose boats were seized by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Owners of motorised boats will receive Rs.
8 lakh, while owners of country boats will receive Rs.
2 lakh.
The state plans to build artificial reefs in 50 places so fish can live there.
It will also expand sea ranching near Chennai and Kanyakumari.
Officials want to improve fish production in both the sea and inland waters.
They also plan to support fish farms and open-sea fish cages.
Tamil Nadu will raise daily assistance for families of missing fishermen from Rs. 350 to Rs. 600.
Families will receive the assistance for two years or until group accident insurance provides relief.
The government will provide Rs. 8 lakh for each motorised boat seized by the Sri Lanka Navy and Rs. 2 lakh for each country boat.
Artificial reefs will be created at 50 locations, while sea ranching will expand along the Chennai and Kanyakumari coasts.
The state plans fish-resource mapping, expanded fish farming infrastructure, and subsidies for open-sea cage culture at 80 coastal locations.
