CPI(M) Seeks Full Mettur Water Supply for Samba Crops
CPM urges govt to ensure full water supply for samba paddy cultivation · thehansindia.com

P Shanmugam of the CPI(M) asked Tamil Nadu to provide farmers with water for the full samba rice-growing season.

He said farmers need water for about 120 to 150 days.

A reported plan to provide water for only 45 days worried farming communities.

Shanmugam said the Mettur dam should be managed so farmers can finish growing their crops.

He also accused Karnataka of not regularly providing Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water.

He wanted Tamil Nadu to seek help from the Supreme Court and the Union government.

He opposed using fertile farmland for proposed airports at Parandur and Hosur.

He also criticised an order to monitor some student and youth protests at colleges.
