India's Wholesale Inflation Eases Slightly as Food Prices Rise
Wholesale prices are what shops pay when they buy goods in large amounts before selling them to us.
In July, these prices went up a little less than they did in June, but they still rose.
The overall number fell just a tiny bit, from 9.87% to 9.78%.
Food, however, kept getting more expensive.
The index that tracks food prices rose, meaning food items became dearer.
Some things got cheaper, especially fuel and power, which slowed down their price increases.
But other things like metals, chemicals, and textiles went up faster.
Even electricity prices started rising again after being down.
The government also corrected last May's numbers, saying prices rose a little more than first reported.
Overall, things are still getting more costly, especially food.
India's wholesale price inflation eased to 9.78% in July 2026 from 9.87% in June.
The WPI Food Index inflation rose to 6.65% in July from 6.14% in June, showing food items continued to get dearer.
Fuel and power inflation fell sharply to 20.05% from 27.41%, providing some relief to overall inflation.
Inflation accelerated in primary articles (8.52%) and manufacturing (8.29%), while non-food articles jumped to 17.66%.
May 2026 WPI inflation was revised upward to 9.88% from the earlier provisional reading of 9.68%.
