Telangana Man Arrested for Killing Elderly Woman Over Gold
A man in India is in trouble with the police.
His name is Aithanaboyina Prashanth and he is 26 years old.
He had a bad habit of online betting and drinking, which cost him lots of money.
Police think he wanted to steal gold jewellery from an elderly woman named Suguna because she lived near his shop.
When she screamed for help, he hurt her with an iron rod.
He took a gold chain and beads from her necklace and ran away.
He gave the stolen chain to his sister's husband, Mahesh.
Mahesh used the chain at a bank to get a loan of about Rs 1.50 lakh.
The police found the jewellery, linked it to the two men, and arrested them.
Now the police are still investigating what happened.
Aithanaboyina Prashanth (26), a chicken shop owner, was arrested for allegedly killing elderly woman Suguna in a village in Telangana's Khammam district.
Police suspect financial distress linked to online betting addiction and a drinking habit drove him to commit the crime.
On the night of July 17, Prashanth allegedly entered Suguna's house with an iron rod and attacked her when she resisted and raised an alarm.
He allegedly stole a gold chain and gold beads from the victim's necklace and handed the chain to his brother-in-law, Saraganda Mahesh (20).
Mahesh allegedly pledged the chain at a bank in Khammam in his own name for a loan of about Rs 1.50 lakh; both men were arrested on August 9.
