Deepadhar Lead East Zone Bridge Championship After Four Rounds
The East Zone Bridge Championship is a big card game contest happening in the Indian city of Kolkata.
Bridge is played by pairs of players who work together to score points.
Fifty teams, made up of 300 players, are taking part this year.
After the first day of play, the team called Deepadhar is in the lead.
They scored 65.22 Victory Points, which is how bridge tournaments keep score.
Another team, Tornate, is close behind in second place.
The players come from East Zone states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, and Jharkhand.
After more rounds, the 16 best teams will go on to a knockout stage.
The winning teams can share prize money of six lakh rupees.
Some members of the leading team have even won gold medals at the Asian Games.
Deepadhar, featuring former Asian Games gold medallists, lead the fifth East Zone Bridge Championship with 65.22 Victory Points after four rounds.
Tornate are second with 62.80 VPs, followed by Challengers (58.87) and Dr Ram Niranjan Jhunjhunwala (58.46).
Around 300 players from 50 teams from East Zone states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Jharkhand, are competing in Kolkata.
The tournament is a Bridge Federation of India Ranking Two event with a total prize purse of Rs 6 lakh.
The top 16 teams from the eight-round Swiss league will advance to the knockout stage; Formidables, recent Under-31 world champions, are 11th.
